NOTES

Our Lenten worship theme this year is "Holding on and letting go," a reminder to hold on to what is most important and let go of that which hinders our walk with God. This week's lectionary readings for meditation are: Isaiah 55:1-9; Psalm 63:1-8; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13; Luke 13:1-9.

Church Council has reviewed the Safe Sanctuary draft proposed by the Safe Sanctuary committee, and affirmed the draft at the January Council meeting. Council is ready to get congregational feedback in the form of brown-bag lunches on Feb. 28 and March 14. Members of Council and the Safe Sanctuary committee will be leading discussion groups in which all teens and adults are invited to raise questions and concerns about the Safe Sanctuary Plan. Please mark your calendar to join a brown-bag lunch one of the two dates. Once these questions and concerns have been addressed, and any necessary modifications made to the Plan, at a later date this winter/spring, Council will be asking for congregational approval of the Plan. If you are unable to attend a scheduled brown-bag lunch, and have questions/concerns about the Plan that you would like answered, please contact any member of Church Council: Beth B., Rosella C., Jim M., Anne H. or William B.. Do not wait to ask your questions until the congregational approval meeting (late winter/early spring), as Council hopes to have all questions/concerns raised before this time. Hard copies of the Safe Sanctuary Plan are in each mailbox. Please read this document thoroughly prior to attending one of the brown-bag lunch discussion meetings.
Please note that there is also a set of supporting documents which have been drafted by the Safe Sanctuary committee. The supporting documents are working documents which are not a part of the Plan per se, and require no congregational action . These supporting documents provide one way to implement each part of the Plan and have been drafted in an attempt to make initial implementation easier for the permanent Safe Sanctuary committee. However, the committee and Council welcome feedback and suggestions on any of these working documents. Hard copies of these are available by the church mailboxes and anyone is welcome to take a copy.

In preparation for the brown bag lunches about the Safe Sanctuary Plan, please be aware that there are copies of a DVD from the congregational meeting in November, 2008, where the first congregational discussion about a safe sanctuary plan occurred. The DVD provides a valuable introduction to the ideas and questions that CMF'ers raised and that the Safe Sanctuary committee subsequently considered in the drafting of a plan. In a basket next to the mailboxes, there are several copies of the DVD which can be checked out.

We are one of five Oakley congregations who support and help operate the Oakley Community Food Pantry which feeds 150+ people/month. These congregations will be collecting food throughout the year and focusing on particular items each month. March is cereal month. All donated items (cereal and other pantry items) can be placed on the desk top in the kitchen. Thanks for helping support the pantry and contributing to Oakley household food needs.

The PJOS committee will meet on Sunday, March 14 at 8:30 am in the Peace House.

Nick Miller will be participating in the Equality Ride for the next two months. This bus trip visits universities all across the country with policies that expel students who come out as GLBT. The mission of the Ride is to reach out to these schools, from a place of non-violence and engage in productive and meaningful dialogue with the hopes of changes in, minds, and policy. For more information, or to donate visit www.soulforce.org/nick_miller .

A message from Elizabeth NN:
Daniel, Douglas, and I (Elizabeth NN) are in a local children's choir, Young Voices ( www.young-voices.org ). We have all learned lots and lots from this program, and is one of my favorite activities. In our upcoming move, it will be one of the hardest things to leave. As our spring fundraiser we are selling flats of flowers. They are from a good company, McCabe's Greenhouse and Floral in Aurora, IN. I need your orders and money by Sunday, Feb 28, and the flowers will be delivered to you on May 3. We have Jumbo flats (36 plants) of begonias, marigolds, impatiens, petunias, vinca periwinkles for $15. We also have Flats (12 plants) and ½ flats (6 plants) of zonal geraniums and wave petunias; the flats are $45 and the ½ flats are $25. We rely on community support, and so I would really appreciate your support. Thanks!

In keeping with the spirit of Lent as a time of letting go
, stripping our lives down to the bare essentials, we will be removing one item from the sanctuary platform each week of the season such that the Sunday before Easter it will be completely bare. We hope that the opening of the space can also lead to an opening of spiritual space as we worship.

NOTES

Next Sunday, March 28 , is the final Sunday of Lent and we will be sharing in Communion together. I n preparation, you are invited to consider how entering into Communion is an act of entering into the way of the cross.

Our Lenten worship theme this year is "Holding on and letting go," a reminder to hold on to what is most important and let go of that which hinders our walk with God.This week's lectionary readings for meditation are: Luke 19: 28-40; Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29; Isaiah 50:4-9a,; Psalm 31:9-16; Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 22:14-23:56.

In keeping with the spirit of Lent as a time of letting go , stripping our lives down to the bare essentials, we will be removing one item from the sanctuary platform each week of the season such that the Sunday before Easter it will be completely bare. We hope that the opening of the space can also lead to an opening of spiritual space as we worship.
-- worship committee

We will be holding a Maundy Thursday service on April 1 at 7:30pm. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details. -- worship committee

All people new to Cincinnati Mennonite and/or interested in knowing more about the congregation and Mennonite/Anabaptist faith are invited to participate in the Adult Inquirer's Class during the Sunday school hour, from 9:30-10:30am. This door will be re-opened immediately following the worship service to allow for easy in/out access by those exiting the church, and will be re-locked by the Facilities person in charge of lock-up at the end of the morning.

Abolishing Capital Punishment Across CDC
The capital punishment death sentence is in active use in Ohio and to lesser degrees in other states in the Central District Conference. First Mennonite Church in Bluffton has a long standing interest in death penalty issues. On mornings of executions in Ohio they hold a prayer and peace vigil in the town square in Bluffton. They are interested in combining their efforts with others and to expand their witness to include a possible resolution at a CDC meeting, bringing in a speaker to address the issues surrounding capital punishment and possibly work at the state level to give voice to concerns on the death penalty. If you or persons in your congregation are interested please contact Steve Yoder, First Mennonite Church fmc.stevebluffton.edu 419 358-5766.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month,
a time set aside to recognize our collective responsibility to prevent and confront child abuse.

In my work as the Treatment Director at the Family Nurturing Center, April is a very important month. April is the month of the Blue Ribbon Campaign, not only for my agency, but all child abuse agencies in the tri state and nationally.
The Blue Ribbon Campaign began when a Virginia grandmother, Bonnie Finney, tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her van ``to make people wonder.'' The story she told to inquisitive community members was tragic. It was about the abuse of her grandchildren at the hands of their parents, which ultimately led to the brutal death of her grandson.
This April the Blue Ribbon Campaign will not only encourage the region to understand the problems of child abuse, but will also guide efforts in what we can do to help.
Activities planned for April include awareness, prevention, education, and fund-raising. are a number of activities/events throughout the region that you can participate in. Please see below for some of the activities that you can participate in/support:

April 1 , 12:00 noon, Family Nurturing Center's Blue Ribbon Ceremony hosted by Tom Gill Chevrolet in Florence. A Northern Kentucky community event to raise awareness, recognize work done in the community to prevent child abuse and an opportunity to share resources.

April 23 rd 6:00pm The 21 st Take Back the Night, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky comes together for this ``march'' and vigil raising awareness of sexual assault/abuse in the region (beginning at Sawyer Point, Cincinnati and marching to the Peace Bell in Newport, KY).MUSE, speakers, survivor speak out, Clothesline T Shirt Display among other activities.Check out the website for details www.takebackthenightcinci.weebly.com

April 24 , 8:00 am, Family Nurturing Center's Blue Ribbon 5K Race and Family Fun Walk. Route runs (or walks) through NKU's campus. opportunity for volunteers to work at the race and lots of fun for individuals, teams and families to run or walk!information is available on our website www.familynurture.org

April 25 , Blue Sunday. Congregations throughout the region will be raising awareness and offering prayers and support surrounding child abuse.

NOTES

Notes For Worship During The Easter Season
Theme and Scriptures: Our Easter season worship theme is "New heavens and a new earth," celebrating the resurrection happens among us. For your own reflection throughout the week, you may wish to meditate on the lectionary readings for next Sunday's worship: Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 118:14-29; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-31.
Birds: Sunday we will be adding a different bird to the table. Throughout history and across cultures, birds have often been sacred symbols because they travel freely between heaven and earth, and in our own Christian tradition a bird is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Each bird comes from Thousand Villages and represents one of the ways that resurrection hope is active around the world through the work of various artisan groups.
Peace Candle: Each Sunday a Peace Candle will be lit to commemorate the resurrected Christ's first words to the gathered disciples: "Peace be with you."
Testimony - One Hundred Words: Each Sunday, following the sermon, a person will share a personal testimony100 words or less on a theme related to the day .

Please mark your calendars for a congregational meeting Sunday, April 11 , immediately following the service in the basement. This meeting will be brief, for the purpose of approving our congregational Safe Sanctuary Plan. Church Council strongly encourages all adults to attend. Thank you!"

Prayers for Faith and Learning:
Thank God on this Easter Day for the knowledge and blessings that we have received through Jesus
Christ.

Prayers for the Mennonite Mission Network:
Join the joyful praise of Mennonite Mission Network personnel and partners around the world this Easter Sunday with a paraphrase from Archbishop Desmond Tutu: ``Love is stronger than hate. Light is stronger than darkness. Victory is ours through Jesus who loves us.''

NOTES

Notes For Worship During The Easter Season
Theme and Scriptures: Our Easter season worship theme is "New heavens and a new earth," celebrating the resurrection happens among us. For your own reflection throughout the week, you may wish to meditate on the lectionary readings for next Sunday's worship: Acts 9:1-6; Acts 9:7-20; Psalm 30; Revelation 5:11-14; John 21:1-19.
Birds: Sunday we will be adding a different bird to the table. Throughout history and across cultures, birds have often been sacred symbols because they travel freely between heaven and earth, and in our own Christian tradition a bird is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Each bird comes from Ten Thousand Villages and represents one of the ways that resurrection hope is active around the world through the work of various artisan groups.

Please the congregational meeting today, Sunday, April 11 , immediately following the service in the basement. This meeting will be brief, for the purpose of approving our congregational Safe Sanctuary Plan. Church Council strongly encourages all adults to attend. Thank you!"

During the month of March Oakley congregations collected over 300 boxes of cereal for the Oakley Food Pantry . Thank you! For April we are focusing on collecting toilet paper to stock the pantry in this category for the coming months. We welcome toilet paper along with regular non-perishable food items.

The Oakley Food Pantry is expanding its service to the community. Among other things, we are hoping to reclaim perishable food items that regularly get thrown out from local grocery stores that are still useable. The Pantry is hoping to better inform people of its work and recruit more volunteers for its efforts to meet need during this difficult time for people. If you have any interest in knowing more or possibly, plan attend an hour long session Saturday, April 24th, from 9-10am.

The Mennonite Central Committee Appalachia program seeks summer staff to assist with the Sharing With Appalachian People (SWAP) program . Meals Coordinators and Job Site Coordinators are needed to facilitate the weekly SWAP service groups, as they work on housing repair for low-income persons. Summer staff should be at least 19 years of age, and they receive food, lodging and a stipend for their service. For more information go to swap.mcc.org/swap/internships or call Colettia at (606) 633-5065.

Prayers for the Mennonite Mission Network:

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month,

a time set aside to recognize our collective
responsibility to prevent and confront child abuse.

April 25th , Blue Sunday. Congregations throughout the region will be raising awareness and offering prayers and support surrounding child abuse.

NOTES

Notes For Worship During The Easter Season
Theme and Scriptures: Our Easter season worship theme is "New heavens and a new earth," celebrating the ways that resurrection happens among us. For your own reflection throughout the week, you may wish to meditate on the lectionary readings for next Sunday's worship: Acts 16:9-15; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5; John 14:23-29.

There will be a baby shower for Justin, Erin and Logan Wissing on May 23rd after the Pentecost meal. Needed items include clothes for next summer, books, diapers-size 2, and toys. -Vita Pontis

NOTES

Notes For Worship During The Easter Season
Theme and Scriptures: Our Easter season worship theme is "New heavens and a new earth," celebrating the ways that resurrection happens among us. For your own reflection throughout the week, you may wish to meditate on the lectionary readings for next Sunday's worship: Acts 2:1-21 or Genesis 11:1-9; Psalm 104:24-34, 35b; Romans 8:14-17; John 14:8-17 (25-27).
Birds: Each S unday we will be adding a different bird to the table. Throughout history and across c ultures, birds have often been sacred symbols because they travel freely between heaven and earth, and in our own Christian tradition a bird is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Each bird comes from Ten Thousand Villages and represents one of the ways that resurrection hope is active around the world through the work of various artisan groups.
Peace Candle: Each Sunday a Peace Candle will be lit to commemorate the resurrected Christ's first words to the gathered disciples: "Peace be with you."
Testimony - One Hundred Words: Each Sunday, following the sermon, a person will share a personal testimony100 words or less on a theme related to the day.

Next week is Pentecost and our annual covenant signing. We encourage each household to take the insert copy of the covenant home and reflect this week on one phrase that has particular significance for you, or has become important in the last year.
In place of a sermon on Pentecost Sunday, we would like to invite everyone to consider preparing a short testimony (less than a minute) about why you value that particular part of the covenant. This week's Musing will provide more instruction. We encourage all ages to consider giving a testimony.
-- worship committee

In regards to the Pentecost meal, the Meal Planning Committee will provide lasagna (classic and vegetarian) as the main course. We invite the congregation to sign up to bring a side dish (bread, salad, or dessert) that has special meaning to them- whether it be a family tradition (new or old), recipe from a special friend, etc..Card tents will be provided for persons to write a brief summary of the special meaning surrounding the dish that they are bringing. Thank you.

There will be a baby shower for Justin, Erin and Logan Wissing on May 23rd after the Pentecost meal. Needed items include clothes for next summer, books, diapers-size 2, and toys. -Vita Pontis

Please remember to sign the matte which will border a picture for the Nisly-Nagele family. It is on the  side table in the back by the mail folders.

Anyone interested in being involved in the Prayer Shawl Ministry please sign the sheet by the mail folders. If you can't knit or crochet, don't worry! It's easy & I can teach you, so don't let that stop you. If you would like to contribute toward this ministry you can place your contribution in the offering basket. Please mark your contribution ``Prayer Shawl''. --Thanks, Patti G.

Next HCATF fitness activity will be a bike ride on Saturday, May, 22. Bike ride will take place near Rabbit Hash, KY or Miami Whitewater Forest. Contact Jean Swartley if you have an interest in either place; they are trying to get a head count.

The PJOS Committee will meet on Sunday, May 30 at 9:15 a.m. in the Peace House.

Book Club will meet on Sunday, June 6 after church at Jim & Joy M.'s home. The book to be discussed is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer. Lunch will be served.

Interested in meeting with a Mennonite Mutual Aide financial advisor? Please let Jean S. know as soon as possible; she is trying to arrange to have someone come to Cincinnati to meet with those interested.

The CMF Facilities Committee is hoping to recruit several volunteers during the next two weeks to finish repainting the inside white wood trim in the rental house. so many other jobs to do at the rental house and apartment to meet our goal of finishing by June 1 (plus the regular spring chores needed in the other church buildings and grounds), having this simple but time consuming job taken care of by non Facilities Committee members will be a big help. plan is to have the white paint, the small paint brushes, the drop cloths, a radio to listen to beautiful music, and access to the house, all easily available to those who can drop in to work during the next couple weeks. Please contact Facilities Chair Tim H. if you would like to help. Thanks .

MCC seeks peace-themed quilt blocks
AKRON, Pa. The North American Mennonite Relief Sale Board invites contributions of peace-themed quilt blocks that will be combined into quilts to raise money for Mennonite Central Committee's (MCC) peace programs.
These traveling quilts will be displayed at various MCC relief sales in Canada and the United States, beginning in 2011. As symbolic auction items, they will inspire bidders to contribute toward MCC's peace work.
Through Sept. 20, volunteers Bev Patkau, Calgary, Alta., and Marlys Wiens, Edina, Minn., are accepting blocks of all sizes; pieced, appliquéd, embroidered or painted; any color; representing any sentiment or symbol of peace. Patkau and Wiens will assemble the blocks into at least one quilt for each country.
In 2008-2009 traveling quilts raised more than $180,000 for MCC. Each year, the quilt has a different theme. The 2010 quilt focuses on food.
Proceeds from the 2011 peace quilts could support any of MCC's peace work, including the programs of MCC's partner Justapaz, an organization of the Colombia Mennonite Church. Justapaz supports peacebuilding, human rights and nonviolent action among people who live in areas of conflict, perpetuated by the military, the paramilitary or rebel groups.

To support this program and others, quilters are also invited to create their own peace quilts or wall hangings. The
proceeds garnered from the projects at the relief sales can be designated for peacebuilding.
In the United States, peace quilt blocks can be sent to Marlys Wiens, 7310 York Ave. S. #105, Edina MN 55435. She can be contacted by e-mail at
mwienspro-ns.net .

Patti G. will be moving from her current apartment at 5828 Montgomery Avenue (just down the street from where the Mennonite Arts weekend was held) to the Peace House apartment and is in extreme need of people willing to help her with the move. She lives on the third floor and has several pieces of furniture that would require strong backs. Please let Patti know if you are able to help in any capacity.
From Patti: I will start organizing stuff about 8:00 AM on Sat July 24th. Mary S. will help & if anyone else would like to they are welcome.
I pick up the truck at 10:00AM & have it reserved for 6 hrs so we have to be completely done within that time frame. Mary will be at the old apartment while I am getting the truck. The building is locked so people will need to coordinate with either me or Mary via cell phone so you can get in.
The plan is to load the truck (14') with most everything, with some more fragile things to go in cars, & head to the new apartment & unload. I will have a plan as to where thing are to go.
After everything is unloaded I will return the truck. I am planning on ordering pizza for everyone as a thank you.
I do have a freezer which is not full by any means,
but I will need someplace to put the frozen food from Thursday or Friday before the move until Sunday. (Please let Patti know if you can help with this, too.  Thanks, Violet)

SAVE THE DATE. All CMF volunteers who work with children are urged to attend a Safe Sanctuaries training on Sunday, August 29, after church. This training is mandated by CMF's newly adopted Safe Sanctuaries Policy and will include discussion of child abuse prevention in our church setting. Sunday School teachers and helpers, youth sponsors, nursery volunteers including teens, and parents are invited.
Following the training, volunteers will be asked to sign a "Memo of Understanding" to signify their commitment to following SS guidelines.
Christian Ed hopes that teachers can also use this time for coordinating plans for the school year, which starts September 12.

Camp Friedenswald is into our fourth week of the summer camping season. We have a full summer staff of 34 that are helping to carry out this ministry. We are hoping that many of you in our Central District Congregations have already heard stories of the camps that have taken place. Many are still awaiting their week at Camp and we are prayerfully anticipating their arrival.
We would also like to ask for your prayers for this ministry in a specific way right now. We are currently performing an internal investigation into the misuse of Camp funds by an employee which led to a termination. We ask that you keep our staff, board, and this former employee in your prayers as we navigate this situation amidst our summer camping season. Thank you for the ways you enable this ministry to stay strong. We have been around for 60 years and it is exciting to see what is just around the corner each and every year.

Prayers for Faith and Learning:
Thank God for our religious freedom that not only allows us to worship as we wish, but also allows Mennonite institutions to offer an Anabaptist/Mennonite education.

Prayers for the Mennonite Mission Network:
South Africa's World Cup soccer competition is in its final week. Pray for the churches using this event to witness especially for the Kids' Klub that meets every Friday at Breakthru Church International.

Follow-Up to the Offering of Letters 2009
1.       President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton have elevated
development and poverty reductions as priorities in U.S. foreign
policy.
2. There has been increased funding for development and USAID.
3.       They launched the Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative
and reshaped the large U.S. health assistance reform.
4.       But the process was slow to appoint people to appoint people to
run development agencies and the State Department was slow to
turn its attention to foreign assistance reform.
5.       The main achievement of Bread's 2009 Offering of Letters is to
get both houses of Congress, the State Department, and the White
House moving toward broad reform of U.S. foreign assistance and
development policy.
6.       In early January, Raj Shah was confirmed as USAID
Administrator and set the stage for the President's decision to make
him the coordinator of all U.S. government activities in response to
the Haiti earthquake.

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition is a partnership of faith-based organizations, including the Mennonite Central Committee, who are committed to enacting fair and humane immigration reform that reflects our mandate to welcome the stranger and treat all human beings with dignity and respect. Coalition members work together to advocate for just and equitable immigration policies, educate faith communities, and serve immigrant populations around the country.
This summer, the Coalition invites you to participate in the Isaiah 58 National Solidarity Vigil and Fast for Arizona to support those who are praying and standing strong in AZ. Each week from June 6 to August 1, the vigil rolls from one group of states to the next to engage people of faith in the assigned states in public prayer events for immigration reform. Ohio, the Coalition prayer event is at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 21the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus. This event will be a time of worship with songs, scripture, and speakers and calls to support comprehensive immigration reform. Ohio is one of several states in which legislation similar to Arizona SB 1070 will likely be introduced. Each denomination is encouraged to support with 100 participants to show that church communities feel this is a faith issue. Please consider organizing people to attend to show support from our Mennonite denomination. You may call Melonie Buller (614-747-3662) of the Columbus Mennonite Church for more information or see the flyer posted in CMF foyer.

Call to Worship
(Leader reads)

The Life-Light (John 1.1-5, The Message )

The Word was first,
the Word present to God,
God present to the word.
The Word was God,
in readiness for God from day one.

Everything was created through him;
nothing not one thing!
came into being without him.
What came into existence was Life,
and the Life was Light to live by.
The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;
the darkness could not put it out.

Opening Prayer
Leader: I watch this morning

for the light that the darkness has not overcome.
People: I watch for the fire that was in the beginning
and that burns still in the brilliance of the rising sun.
Leader: I watch for the glow of life that gleams in the growing earth
and glistens in sea and sky.
People: I watch for your light, O God,
in the eyes of every living creature
and in the ever-living flame of my own soul.
Leader: If the grace of seeing were mine this day
I would glimpse you in all that lives.
All:   Grant me the grace of seeing this day.
Grant me the grace of seeing. AMEN

Call to Worship--Psalm 90
Leader: Lord, you have been our dwelling place
            in all generations.
People: Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
               from everlasting to everlasting
               you are God.
Leader: You turn us back to dust,
and say, ``Turn back, you mortals.''
People: For a thousand years in your sight

are like yesterday when it has past,
or like a watch in the night.
Leader: You sweep them away;
            they are like a dream,
            like grass that is renewed in the morning;
People: in the morning it flourished and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.
Leader: Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Mennonite Central Committee grieves the loss of service worker Glen D. Lapp of Lancaster, Pa., following an attack on his medical team in northeastern Afghanistan. Glen was a member of Community Mennonite Church in Lancaster . We call the church to prayer for Glen's loved ones, family and friends of the others who perished, staff of our partner organization in Afghanistan, the people of Afghanistan, and the people who carried out this tragic act. Glen truly showed Christ's love and compassion and the biblical call to peacemaking in serving with the Afghan people. He will be remembered.

Lend a HandMake a School Kit, August 1-September 1
As a service project, the volunteers of Ten Thousand Villages of Cincinnati are launching their 4 th annual kit drive through Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). This year we are collecting school kitsMCC's most requested item. Every year more than 100,000 school-aged children whose lives have been interrupted by war, disaster and poverty receive a draw-string bag filled with new school supplies. These kits are sent all over the world and to poorly funded schools in Canada and the United States.

School kits help students and teachers provide much needed educational supplies while offering a sense of hope and encouragement. Each kit is packed in a hand-sewn fabric bag provided by MCC.

Please join us in making this our best year ever! Your kit(s) may be brought to church and placed in a bin by the coat rack or dropped off during store hours.

Next Sunday, September 5th, will be the final Sunday that New City Presbyterian will be worshiping in our building in the evening. They have appreciated the space, but wish to begin worshiping in the morning and will be moving to John P. Parker elementary school in Madisonville.

During the Sundays of September our education hour and our worship will be dedicated to the theme of sexuality. Sunday school will begin at 9:00am and be focused on same-sex orientation, led by the Dialogue and Discernment team. Worship will address all of us as sexual beings under the theme Body and Soul: Healthy Sexuality and the people of God . See the bulletin insert for details and weekly topics.
Please continue to pray for CMF and for the Dialogue and Discernment team so that we can continue to listen to each other's voices, and be guided by the Spirit.

TODAY, August 29 All CMF volunteers who work with children are urged to attend a Safe Sanctuaries training after church.
Christian Ed hopes that teachers can also use this time for coordinating plans for the school year.

The Annual Meeting will take place after worship on September 19. This is a relatively short meeting with two significant agenda items: Approval of the Budget and the Committee Slate for the coming year.
Please plan to remain after the worship service on September 19 to carry out this annual business of the congregation.

Work and Hope: Finding Christ in the Church ( www.emu.edu/blog/work-and-hope ) is a blog and e-zine dedicated to the experiences and perspectives of young Anabaptists in their twenties and thirties. The blog was created by two Eastern Mennonite University alumni, Jeremy Yoder and Laura Lehman Amstutz, to provide a forum for young adults who are committed to staying in the institutional church but want to discuss what that means. Their blog and quarterly online magazine will attempt to bring together various young adult perspectives about the church.
Yoder came up with the motto ``Work and Hope'' from the inscription to
The Martyrs Mirror , which speaks about the perseverance and faithfulness inherent in the Anabaptist tradition. He writes that ``Finding Christ in the Church'' signals the ambivalence many young persons feel about denomination and church structures. ``Ultimately, we believe that our work here is a sign of hope for the church.''
The first issue of the magazine was launched July 20 and focused on the theme, ``Why am I [still] Mennonite.'' They intend to put out an ``issue'' every quarter that will feature a range of perspectives by young Anabaptists on a particular topic. The next issue will come out in October asking the question ``What is Church?'' If you are interested in writing for future issues of Work and Hope, you may contact the editors at workandhope at emu.edu
