New City Presbyterian continues their weekly 5pm worship services in our building on Sunday evenings. Next Sunday our worship will be in the style of Taize , a contemplative service of song, scripture, and silence.In preparation for the service you may wish to meditation on the lectionary scriptures of the week: Jeremiah 1:4-10, Psalm 71:1-6, 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Luke 4:21-30.



NOTES

Thanks to all who continue to contribute to the Oakley Food Pantry by bringing in nonperishable food items to church and placing them on the desk surface in the kitchen . There are new faces nearly every week at the pantry and the food we are able to distribute there helps struggling households meet their food needs. Items especially welcome now are canned meat, cereal, spaghetti and sauce.

Book Club will meet after church on Sunday, Jan. 24 at Steve & Judy H . 's home. Lunch will be served. The book to be discussed is "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein.

Camp Luz announces the Mother-Daughter Retreat, January 29-30, 2010 , speaker: Mattie Marie Mast, of Dalton, OH. This retreat is for grandmothers, mothers and daughters to come together for worship, Bible study and discussion times, games, and just plain fun! The retreat begins Friday, Jan 29 at 6:30 pm and ends Saturday, Jan 30 after supper at 6:00 pm. COST: $25 per person 11 years and up; $12.50 for ages 4-10; under 3 free. Columbus Mennonite Church invites you to a hymn sing on Saturday, January 30 at 7 pm. The hymn sing will be led by Ken Nafziger, Professor of Music at Eastern Mennonite University in
Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Ken was music editor of `Hymnal: A Worship Book' (1992), editor of its accompaniment handbook, and assistant to the editor of `Sing the Journey' (2005) and `Sing the Story' (2007). He is active in the United States and Canada as a guest conductor, workshop leader and clinician. Please join us! Mennonite Arts Weekend is almost here! Please join us February 5-7 at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian (PRP) for a weekend of creative fun and fellowship. If you're planning to take part in the Saturday artist presentations and meals, please fill out a registration form (see the bulletin board in the back). Although the registration fee is waived for CMFers, we do ask that you pay a $30 fee ($15 for kids 12 and under) to help us cover the cost of meals. If you can't make it to the Saturday morning and afternoon presentations, you can still attend the Saturday evening concert at 7. Please note that there will not be a service at CMF on Sunday, Feb. 7. The service will be at PRP and will start at 10:15am. If you would like to help at the Weekend, please check the volunteer sign-up sheet by the mail folders.

4) Servers are needed for each meal, 4 people.

A spaghetti and meatball dinner is being sponsored by the UCC in Oakley , 4100 Taylor Avenue, on Sunday, February 7 th , from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Cost of the dinner is $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children (12 and younger). The dinner is open to the community.

Creation Care: Stewards of the Earth (February 12-14 at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center) offers a wealth of resources for leading your church toward environmentally responsible practice. Each applicant is asked to write an essay about his or her experiences in integrating their faith with their finances. In addition, to apply for an MMA College Scholarship, either the student or the student's parents own a product from either MMA or Mennonite Financial Federal Credit Union. Census seeks job applicants
Our office has recently been contacted by the US Census to spread the word about job possibilities. We have flyers and more info in the church office if you wish to know more.
-- The U.S. Census is accepting applications for jobs related to conducting the 2010 Census. Candidates must be at least 18 and available to work part-time or full-time. Residents of all neighborhoods are urged to apply, as most people will work from their homes in or near their own communities.
Applicants must take a timed test of basic skills in reading, math and map-reading. To download a practice test or to get more information about Census employment, visit the Web site
www.2010censusjobs.gov .
To schedule an application/testing session near your home, call the local Census office at 513-443-0320.

Looking for a way to put your faith into action? Interfaith Hospitality Network would like to offer you the opportunity to become a mentor for a previously homeless family. They are looking for couples and small groups to develop healthy relationships with these families while creating supportive community connections. There will be training dates for prospective mentors on Saturday, February 6 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM and on Tuesday, February 9 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Prospective mentors only need to attend one of the Mentor Training sessions. Both sessions will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park at the corner of Erie and Paxton. Interested mentors should contact IHN to register for one of the training sessions. Prayers for Faith and Learning:

Pray for the upcoming Mennonite Educators Conference, February 4-6, in Pittsburgh, Pa., for the planning committee members, keynote presenters, workshop presenters as they prepare, and for the teachers and administrators of Mennonite Schools Council who plan to attend.

Prayers for the Mennonite Mission Network:
Connie Byler, in Spain, has a goal of visiting and sharing the good news of Jesus with at least one person every day. Pray that God may guide her to people with open hearts and give her words that connect with the need of each person.

The church office has a new copier! We are looking to give away our previous copier , a Canon Image RUNNER 1620, along with a storage stand, to a nonprofit organization or worthy cause that would benefit from its use. Please talk with Violet or Pastor Joel if you know of a group that could put it to use.
